Why does religious scholarship sometimes feel so remote? The advice from the pulpit doesn't seem to jive with the concerns of the street. Let's be honest: for the most part, scholars and young people simply don't communicate. But that's not the way it should be, says Habib Mohammad Alsaqqaf. In fact, the gulf between scholarship and youth would have been unknown at the time of the Prophet. After all, among the first to hear his call were youth. The time has come, Habib Alsaqqaf powerfully argues, for scholars to get down from the minarets and minbars and be part of their communities, and for youth to help, not blame, their elders in understanding their needs and supporting the work their Imams do.
